PAPERY THINGS WITH LINES AND CIRCLES ON THEM

I read a lot. On average two or three books a month. When I was sick with pneumonia last year, I read a book a week. While I know this is unusual, it still floors me to run into people who hate reading. I'm not talking about those who can't read or are impaired by dyslexia. Chances are most of them would LOVE to read a book a week if they could.
Last year I read a fascinating book by Antonia Frasier about the life of Marie Antoinette. The copy I have features a portion of a painting ( one of many, she was a queen ya know) of the actual Marie Antoinette.
On one of my used book scavenges today at Amazon, I found that same book now has a picture of Kirsten Dunst on the cover.
While I am very intrigued by the movie and will go see it, I gotta know, are we really that dumb? Does a book have to have a picture of a celebrity or a sticker with Oprahs endorsement on the cover to get us to read it?
How many people will see the movie then buy the book only to wonder why the pictures on the inside don't look more like Kirsten Dunst?

Sadly yes, it does make a difference to some people. But, there is an equally large majority who would NEVER. EVER. buy a movie-tie in.
